Tax Day 2026: Helpful Tips for Our Ohio Neighbors
Happy April, Unity Catholic FCU family! Spring is finally in the air here in Ohio, but we know that for many of our members, this month also brings the "tax season crunch." While the deadline can feel a bit daunting, staying organized and informed is the best way to keep those stress levels down. Whether you’re a seasoned filer or this is your first time navigating the process, we’ve put together a quick guide to help you cross the finish line with confidence.
What to Keep in Mind This Year
Since Tax Day 2026 falls on a Wednesday, April 15, you have a full window to get your documents in order. Here are the key things you should know for both your Federal and Ohio state filings:
The Big Deadline: Both your Federal and Ohio State income tax returns are due by midnight on April 15, 2026.
New Deduction Updates: Keep an eye out for changes from the "One Big Beautiful Bill" passed last year. This includes potential new deductions for tips, overtime income, and even auto loan interest on certain vehicles.
IRA Contributions: You have until April 15 to contribute to your Traditional or Roth IRA for the 2025 tax year. This is a great way to lower your taxable income while building your future!
Direct Deposit is King: The IRS and the State of Ohio consistently recommend electronic filing with direct deposit. It’s the fastest and most secure way to receive your refund—often in as little as 21 days.
Don't Forget Municipal Taxes: If you live or work in an area covered by RITA or CCA, remember that local municipal taxes are also generally due on the same day.
At Unity Catholic FCU, we’re here to support your financial journey long after tax season ends. If you’re expecting a refund this year, consider putting it to work in one of our Share Certificates or an IRA Share Account to help your savings grow. If you have questions about setting up direct deposit or need a copy of your 1099-INT for the interest earned on your accounts, just give us a call or stop by one of our branches in Parma, Brunswick, or beyond. We're always here to help you make the most of your money!
